Inauguration of St. George Preca Steps
On Thursday 27th December 2018, the Valletta Local Council officially named the steps next to the Parliament of the Republic of Malta as St George Preca Steps. During the inauguration ceremony, the Secretary General spoke about the Founder and Valletta. Fr. Michael Camilleri O.P., the Chaplain of the Parish of Our Lady of Fair Havens and St. Dominic spoke about the link between St. Pious V and Valletta, as the other steps were named after this saint. In the concluding message, the Major of Valletta, Prof Alexiei Dingli prayed the two saints to protect for the Capital City of Malta.
Incorporation of new members
On Christmas morning fourCandidates from the Delegation of Malta and Gozo were incorporated Members in the Society. They are Benyon Borg, Reuben Caruana, Julian Spiteriand EmanuelZammit. During the Ceremony Superior Daniel Micallef shared a reflection about living theSDC vocationauthentically. The Superior General and the Ecclesiastical Assistant Fr. Kevin Schembri, also delivered their messages at the end of the Ceremony.
Demonstration of Baby Jesus
On Christmas Eve, SDC Centres organized the Demonstration of Baby Jesus, typically in the vicinity of the Centre. In Malta the Siġġiewi SDC Centre organised the National Demonstration of Baby Jesus in Valletta on Sunday 23rd December 2018.Members in Poland organised the Demonstration for the second consecutive year on Friday 28th December 2018. This year it was held in the historical centre of Poznań and ended in the Parish Church of St. Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr, popularly known as the Fara Church.
Affiliation with SEDOS
On Friday 30th November 2018 the Superior General and the Assistant Superior General attended the SEDOS Annual General Assembly 2018. SEDOS (Service of Documentation and Study on Global Mission) is an organization that was set up in Rome to link together, help and sustain affiliated missionary societies and congregations. Following a short presentation, the SDC was approved as the last new member to join SEDOS. The SDC is also the first lay society to be affiliated with SEDOS.
