St Michael School
St.Michael School is a secondary school administered by the Society of Christian Doctrine M.U.S.E.U.M. It was founded in 1946 by Mr.Anthony Agius who at that time worked as a fitter at the Malta Shipyard.

One can say that just after WWII education in Malta was not accessible to all those who wished to study. Secondary Education in Malta was not compulsory as it is today and there was only one Lyceum and a handful of Church Secondary schools. These schools aimed at preparing students for the London or Oxford GCE. There was also at that time a technical school, situated in Cottonera, run by the De La Salle Brothers. It was probably this school that spurned Mr.Anthony Agius to start St.Michael, with the intention of preparing boys to sit for the Shipyard's apprentice examination. The school was first located in Marsa, but later moved to Cannon Road, Qormi.

It was in the early 80's that the Society of Christian Doctrine thought of investing heavily on the school. The building itself underwent great structural development; more classes were added with the building of the second floor and a gymnasium. Science and Computer laboratories were set up and a new emphasis was given to creative arts and sports. Today, new plans are in the pipeline to erect a third floor thus adding more facilities to enhance the New Minimum Curriculum.

Veritas Press
The Society has always published works of a religious nature in the Maltese language due to the lack of suitable literature of this kind. The Society has its own printing press [Veritas Press] which also specialises in the printing of religious works. The Society has been in the forefront to encourage the use of the Bible and from the very beginning the Members were encouraged to read the Bible regularly, whether individually or communally. The Society encouraged the publication of a Maltese version of the Bible which did not exist at the time of the beginning of the Society. The Society gave its encouragement to the late biblical scholar, Mgr Prof PP Saydon [1895-1971] in translating the Bible completely from the original language into Maltese. In recognition of the assistance given, Prof Saydon left the copyright of the translation to the Society. Since his death, the Society has printed a number of versions of this Bible which include both a fine library edition and a pocket size edition for more general use.

Preca Library
Ever since about 1975, the Society has developed a well-established bookshop named after its Founder. The bookshop was possibly the first of its kind in the Maltese Islands. It specialises in the sale of religious literature and other media from several of the main publishing houses in Europe and North America. Preca Library also publishes books in Maltese. In November 1997 the bookshop has been moved tp a spacious and specifically designed part of the Mother House at Blata l-Bajda, affording easier access to the general public.

The Society has also established a bookshop known as Preca Library which was possibly the first of its kind in the island specialising in the sale of religious literature and other media from the main publishing houses in Europe and North America. Preca Library also publishes books in Maltese.

Dar il-Hanin Samaritan
The Rule of the Society emphasises the care of the elderly Members, a particular important need especially in view of the fact that all members are celibate. The Society has just finished a new building to house this facility in the immediate vicinity of St Michael School. The wing for this facility was inaugurated in December 1996.
